Adding a link to your website on ChatGPT is dead simple and takes less than 20 minutes.
To link your website from ChatGPT, you'll need to create a custom GPT and publish it on the GPT Store. Creating a custom GPT that is useful for your target audience is a great way to drive relevant traffic to your website.
After you publish your custom GPT on the GPT Store, you can add a link to your website and social media profiles. These links appear on your builder profile on the GPT Store and on your custom GPT every time someone uses it.
Adding a link to your domain from ChatGPT
To link your website from ChatGPT, you first need to create an account and sign up for a ChatGPT Plus or Team subscription. The paid subscription unlocks special features and access to the premium AI models.
For the purposes of this guide, you'll need the subscription to access the GPT builder and the ability to publish your custom GPTs to the GPT Store - a feature only available to paid users.
Create a custom GPT
Before you can link to your domain from ChatGPT, you need to create and publish a custom GPT on the GPT Store. If you have already created a GPT and published it to be available to everyone on the GPT Store, you can skip this step and move on to the next section.
This post will be brief about how to create custom GPTs - look out for a future in-depth guide on building custom GPTs.
To create a new custom GPT, go to the Explore GPTs page on your profile. It should look something like this:
At the top right of the page, click the Create button to start building your GPT.
You should now see the GPT builder interface.
This interactive interface allows you to write a system prompt with specific instructions for how your GPT should behave, upload a custom knowledge base of information for your GPT, and define a list of starter prompts to make it easy for your users to begin using the GPT.
The GPT builder interface also makes it easy to customize your GPT by chatting with the assistant to build your GPT. In a few minutes of chatting with the assistant, you should be able to build your custom GPT.
Publish Your Custom GPT
Once you are finished customizing your GPT, you will need to publish it.
To publish your GPT, click Create from the GPT builder interface and you will be asked how you want to share your GPT.
Choose the GPT Store option so that your GPT is available to everyone and can be found organically by users browsing the GPT Store.
Update your Builder Profile with a Link to Your Website
Now that your GPT is published, it is time to add the link to your website.
On ChatGPT, navigate to settings and then choose Builder Profile.
This is where you will see the option to add links from your profile.
Under the Links section, choose Add next to the website icon, then click Verify Domain.
On this screen, enter your domain name (example: hugesoftware.com) under Add a new domain and press Submit.
You will then see a DNS TXT record you need to add to your DNS records that you use to manage your domain name. This is how OpenAI verifies that you own the domain name you are adding to your profile.
Take a moment to update your DNS records with the one provided and then come back to the page and press Check.
OpenAI will then attempt to verify the DNS record is added to confirm your ownership of the domain. This can take some time to update even after you've added the DNS record, so you might need to wait a few minutes and try again if it does not work right away.
Checking that your website is linked from your GPT Profile
Once the domain is verified, you should see your website is now linked to your GPT profile.
If you view your profile again from the settings page or by looking at your custom GPT, you can hover over your name and the website icon to see the link to your website.
Now anyone who uses your custom GPT will see the link to your website and be able to visit it from ChatGPT. This is a great way to gain visibility for your website from users who find your GPTs on the GPT Store.
